What is Four Chambers?
a creative pornography project making short films with sex & cinema.
Over twelve years, Four Chambers has built a body of work that screens at film festivals, art institutions, and porn cinemas in equal measure - including retrospectives at the ICA and programming at Barbican and Somerset House. It has been written about by Dazed, Hunger, and Document Journal, and recognised by film critics, art historians, and cultural commentators as one of the most significant independent film practices working in this space. A project that has never stopped asking what pornography can say, do, and be.
About Four Chambers
Four Chambers is a creative pornography project blending cinema and sexuality. Known for pushing boundaries and exploring the intricate relationship between sex and the human condition, Four Chambers creates films that transcend the pornographic genre. To date, Four Chambers has 80+ films in its archive.
Headed by performer, Vex Ashley and self taught in film making with an emphasis on collaborative DIY practices; Four Chambers now exists alongside a new wave of creators making contemporary pornographic work from a new perspective.
The project remains deliberately ambiguous, rejecting labels for both their films and performers, existing in-between genres of both art and pornography and dismissing the need for a definition of either. Exploring themes of technology, symbolism, mythology and alchemy and their intrinsic intersection with sex and part of the growing decentralisation from traditional adult industry business, Four Chambers is independent, DIY, conceptual, pornography cinema.
